Time to get back into it!

I haven't done much study lately. One reason being is that I'm going to South America in February, so I've been learning some spanish at night.

Second and the biggest reason is work. Does anyone else find it hard to do study when they get home from work? How do you motivate yourself to study? I know if I did about half an hour each day, I would be set for the exam next year. But most of the time when I come home, I eat dinner pretty much straight away. Then, all I want to do is blob out.

How do you motivate yourself to study after you've spent all day at work (or studying at uni)?

I guess it comes down to how bad do you want to pass. I would love to pass this exam. And it's very possible. I'm going to have to put something up on the wall to remind myself of what I want to achieve. Put some study music on for half an hour and just do it.

But if you have some tips, please let me know!

How are your studies going? If you're sitting the december exam, you'll be wrapping up and doing practice exams now I guess. Do all the ones the CFAI provides, even the ones you need to pay for. They are very valuable. And how are you doing if you're studying for the June exams? Have you started yet?

212 days until the level two exam.

Yes Kiran - of course you can give the exam again. I dont think you need to register again. Just have to pay the exam fees and not the registration fees

Hi,
I am not pursuing CFA but I have some general advice. As soon as you get home eat but eat light. Set aside light snacks for when you are studying. Get it it as soon as possible if you get home at 5 try to start at 6 or 7 or 1 hour after your meal. If you wait too long you will be sleepy and won't be able to concentrate. If eat heavy you will feel sluggish and won't be able to concentrate. Do not forget to take short distracting but (closed ended) breaks and do not forget to wink it works wonders for the health of your eyes.

Hello! Just found your blog on the net occasionally. Congratulations with this adventure! I am CFA level 3 candidate from Moscow and looks like we face similar challenges : )

As for studying at evenings is basically the only time I can study, and I know how hard it is. I try to make a plan - how many pages I need to read everyday and that helps. My boss (also level 3 candidate) prepares in the mornings - but that's too hard for me now - we have late sunrises and it's dark as night if to wake up at 6, 6:30 or even 7, so I prefer sleeping longer. What is more I have two kids (5 and 6 years old) and though wife takes a lot of care about them I still need to fevote some time to them.

So, bottom line - thing that works for me - make a plan a stick to it, whatever it's required for it!

Wish you a success! I am sure you will pass now, just make a bit more preparation!!!

I just registered for my CFA level 1 exam - dec. Your blog is very encouraging. I have a full time job as well, I know it's hard to concentrate after work and dinner. I have been working on my Personal Financial Planning Designation as well. Now, I need to make a great study plan for both exams ;) Keep it up! Work-Life-Study balance is important.

Hang in there bro....I failed level two (for the second time) in June just like you...giving it a right old go again though. And yeah, it appears to get harder to study each year...

Just hang in there bro....we just have to hope that this time, it'll all come together during the exam!

Cheers!

I am also doing L2. Was going well until today. The Fixed Income stuff is really killing me, not sure why but I think because it is so boring! Mortgage Backed Securites today.

How many hours did you do last year? I dont really know if I am doing enough but my main concern is information retention. God, why did I sign up to this again?!
